Project Overview:
The "Souq Najada and Souq Ahmad Tunnels" project was a landmark design and build venture in Doha’s vibrant city center, situated within the historic Souq Waqif district. This project entailed the construction of two pedestrian tunnels, the Souq Najada Tunnel and the Souq Ben Ali Tunnel, ensuring safe and efficient pedestrian movement between key destinations and car parks.

Project Details:

• Scope: Construction of two 70 LM (linear meter) tunnels beneath the main streets, executed within a live road environment without disrupting traffic.
• Contract Value: 207 million Qatari Riyals

Key Challenges and Solutions:

• Aquifer Presence and Rock Level Variations: Managed through the strategic installation of relief and horizontal and vertical wells, along with dewatering measures to effectively control groundwater.
• Urban Environment Constraints: Advanced drilling and grouting techniques were employed to minimize disruption in central Doha and ensure smooth coordination with ongoing traffic.
• Structural Integrity and Waterproofing: The tunnels were constructed with a 1-meter-thick steel-reinforced concrete structure, followed by comprehensive waterproofing and an additional 1-meter concrete layer for enhanced durability and safety.
• High-End Wall Cladding Finishes: Installed silver travertine marble with decorative stainless-steel inserts, mounted on a steel structure to create a visually striking and durable wall finish.

Execution Excellence:
The project showcased exceptional expertise in infrastructure and fit-out, marked by punctual MEP integration and luxurious finishing that balanced functionality and aesthetics. Through extensive studies and strategic planning, the team navigated challenges to ensure successful project completion that support UCC’s prestigious reputation in the region.
